Teacher of the Year Appreciation Luncheon
Honoring Teachers from
Soroptimist International of Palm Springs hosted the 4th Annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon to honor the 2006-2007 Palm Springs Unified School District, Palm Springs Teachers of the Year on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The following teachers were honored:
Palm Springs 2006-07 "TEACHERS OF THE YEAR"
- Steve Reid, Cahuilla Elementary
- Laurie Siegrist, Cielo Vista Elementary
- Sheila Duncan, Katherine Finchy Elementary
- Sarah Johnson, Vista del Monte Elementary
- Nettie Roberts, Raymond Cree Middle School
- Brian Ingelson, Palm Springs High School
- Brenda Gunderson, Alternative Education
- Esther Angles, Early Childhood Education
Our keynote speaker was Dr. Lorri McCune, Superintendent of Schools, Palm Springs Unified School District. Each teacher was invited to bring a guest. The teachers each received recognition from our city, county and state officials and received an appreciation award presented by Soroptimist International of Palm Springs. Additionally an article was written after the event in the Palm Springs Unified School District newsletter and all sponsors were mentioned.
This was a great way to show our community support of excellence in education. Soroptimist International is an international service organization founded in 1921. The heart of Soroptimist's mission is to make a difference for women and children through volunteer service to the community. Soroptimist International strives to be a global voice for women through awareness, advocacy and action. Our organization is committed to serving local, national and international communities, and participating actively in decision-making at all levels of society.
This year's event was a huge success with approximately 75 attendees at the luncheon. We are planning something special next year to mark our 5th anniversary of this great community event. We look forward to everyone's continued participation!
